Overdrive Corvette C1

Overdrive is part of the Steel Motion Series, a sculptural exploration of speed, engineering, and automotive design. 

Inspired by the Chevrolet Corvette C1, this piece reinterprets one of the most iconic sports cars ever created through DecoMetal Studio's layered steel language. The process begins with CAD design, where the Corvette's flowing proportions and distinctive silhouette are carefully studied and translated into a sculptural composition.

Each layer is laser-cut from stainless steel and refined through orbital sanding before being assembled along a temporary elongated spine. This structure ensures precision during welding and alignment. Once complete, the spine is sacrificed, leaving discreet support tabs beneath the body that anchor the sculpture seamlessly into a mirror-polished stainless steel base, creating a sense of suspension and lightness.

Finished in a deep black powder coating, Overdrive emphasises contrast and sophistication, allowing its curves and proportions to stand out against the reflective base. Stainless steel wheels are integrated as sculptural elements, precision machined and mirror-polished to complement the composition while reinforcing its automotive identity.

3D-printed details are incorporated to enhance finer features and visual depth. Balancing realism and abstraction, Overdrive captures the spirit of performance and freedom that made the Corvette legendary while elevating it into a timeless work of sculptural design.

As the second piece in the Steel Motion Series, Overdrive expands the collection into classic automotive territory, demonstrating how different eras of vehicle design can be reimagined through a shared sculptural language.
